History of the Alsatian pocket knife

The Alsatian knife - Boxwood, better known as the “Massu” or “Rucksack-Messer”, is emblematic of the regional knives manufactured in Thiers for more than two centuries. This model, of German origin, continued to be produced after the region returned to France during the last wars. Known for its robust construction and distinctive design, its characteristic shape recalls a club, while the blade is inspired by the Turkish yatagan sabre. Folding-knife mechanism

• The square-tang flat-spring system provides blade retention in both the open and closed positions. The spring supplies the holding force for safer use.
• The kick stop protects the cutting edge when the knife closes.

Stainless-steel blade

• Made from 3 mm-thick 12C27, a high-quality Swedish stainless steel. This material provides a razor-sharp edge and is easy to sharpen.
• The flat grind provides excellent versatility for different cutting tasks.
• The stamped nail nick on the blade helps open the knife.

Boxwood handle

• Boxwood (Buxus sempervirens) is a dense and robust material. Native to temperate regions of Europe, boxwood ranges from pale yellow to beige and has a fine, even grain.
• The scales are fitted over a blue-white-red fibreglass spacer with stainless-steel screws, providing strength and durability.
• Our craftsman shapes each Alsatian pocket-knife handle by hand in our workshop in Thiers.

• Bolsters finish the front of the knife and house the padded pivot pin, adding protection and strength.
• The blade and body receive a satin finish for a refined appearance.
• The buffed, glossy handle adds a more polished touch.
• The inside of the spring is polished, reinforcing the knife’s refined finish.
• Recessed liners improve the smoothness of the mechanism.
• The inner edges of the liners are softened for a pleasant feel.
• Our craftsman engraves his logo on the blade to sign his work.
