At FL Toussaint, the Exceptional Pieces category brings together creations in single copies or in very limited quantities. They are distinguished by a design specific to the workshop, more advanced adjustments and finishes, sometimes a worked mechanism, Damascus steel, mammoth or rare wood. The material alone is not enough: it is the coherence between the design, the assembly and the finish that makes the piece.

Yes. For these creations, the design, preparation of the blade and components, heat treatment, grinding, adjustment, assembly, finishing and sharpening are carried out at Courpière by François-Louis Toussaint. Only certain series models from the workshop include operations entrusted to partners. Parts in this category are not included.

No, not identical. A bar of Damascus, a block of mammoth or a grained wood each give a different result, even on a common basis. A creation close to an archived piece can sometimes be considered, but it will constitute a new example, with its own materials and its own deviations. Each request is studied before any response.

Both. Each piece remains a functional knife, designed to cut and last. Some join a collection, others are used regularly, at the table or in the pocket. However, not all of them are intended for the same use: the individual sheet specifies the purpose of the part, its mechanism, its steel and the precautions specific to its materials.

The series makes a model accessible: certain operations can be entrusted to partners in the Thiers basin, which is indicated in complete transparency. The unique piece concentrates all the stages in the workshop, with design, adjustment and finishing time that mass production does not allow. Two different logics, both assumed.

The knives on sale appear directly in the grid of this category. Creations already sold remain documented in the archives, with their characteristics and their year of manufacture. A request can be presented to the workshop, which studies it before committing. Not all requests are accepted: feasibility, timing and consistency with the work of the workshop come into account. The workshop does not commit to an exact copy of an existing part, nor to the use of a material provided by the customer.

Each individual sheet indicates the precautions specific to the piece: wiping and oiling for carbon Damascus, temperature and humidity stability for mammoth, maintenance adapted to gasoline for wood. If in doubt, the workshop answers maintenance questions and can resume sharpening a knife it has manufactured.
